CLASSROOM OUTREACH PROGRAMS

Our outreach programs bring a bevy of shells, lessons, driftwood, and activities into the classroom. Through an interactive curricula on oceanography, marine science, regional education, and history, we aim to a foster a sense of wonder and curiosity toward our natural world. FROM THE GRASS TO THE SEA

Offerings: Kindergarten Curriculum ••• Elementary Curriculum

Lots to see, from the grass to the sea! This program is designed to introduce students to all that makes a beach, a beach: grass, sand, driftwood, shells, tidewaters, and rocks. Through introductory concepts spanning the fields of biology, ecology, geology, and oceanography, your students will come to answer questions like “why is the sand gray and how does it sparkle?” Activity stations will provide students with physical learning experiences, where they will be exploring the textures and details of shells, sand, driftwood, grass, and beach treasures like buoys from Japan once washed up the shores of Long Beach.

WAY UP HIGH, WAY DOWN LOW

Offerings: Kindergarten Curriculum ••• Elementary Curriculum

It's a long way down to the bottom of the sea. In each of the five distinct zones, there lies a universe of marine life. Through this program, your student will be introduced to the sheer enormity of the ocean they see on their way home from school, out the window, or during a beach walk. In this introductory marine biology lesson, we will be creating art, mapping out the seven seas, and exploring shells and rocks pulled from the bottom of the ocean. At the end of our submarine adventure, we hope that each student will leave class with knowledge, inspiration, and a powerful sense of wonder.
